Patna Pirates have etched their name in the golden history of Pro Kabaddi League as one of the most prominent and consistent teams. The Patna Pirates is the only team who has bagged this glorious crown for three consecutive seasons. They have defeated strong teams like Jaipur Pink Panthers, U Mumba and Gujarat Fortune Giants to magnificently win season 3,4 and 5 of the PKL.
However, in the sixth season of PKL, the Patna Pirates’ stranglehold on the PKL title was broken by the Bengaluru Bulls. Apart from being three-time champions, they have made it to the playoffs 5 times in 6 seasons. As the seventh season of PKL will kick off from the 20th July, Pirates are all set with their squad to put their best foot forward and once again claim the PKL title.
Patna Pirates has always been a robust team in the Pro Kabaddi League. This season they have gone for a fresh start primarily focusing on strengthening their defence and had made a couple of smart buys. Here’s the list of players that have been bought by the Patna Pirates.
- Pradeep Narwal:
Pradeep Narwal has been the poster boy of Patna Pirates since season 2 of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League and ever since his star performance in the season 2 of PKL he has been in the category of the Elite Retained Players of the Patna Pirates. This 22-year-old young lad is one of the most promising and prominent players Patna has in their squad. He has performed outstandingly well in the previous seasons of PKL and is also known as the dubki king because of his signature dubki move. Like in the previous seasons of PKL, Pardeep will lead Patna Pirates in this season as well.
- Jang Kun Lee:
Jang Kun Lee is an outstanding South Korean professional kabaddi player. He did his debut in Pro Kabaddi League in 2014 as a raider with Bengal Warriors and continued to be a part of Bengal Warriors until season 6. He is the first overseas player to score 400 raid points and the most successful foreign raider in Pro Kabaddi league. Bengal Warriors did not retain Jang Kun Lee for season 7 and to make the most of this opportunity Patna Pirates paid a whopping amount of 40 lakhs to get him in their squad. He has a unique raiding style where he combines his martial arts skills with the traditional kabaddi moves.
- Mohit:
Mohit is the new young player who will be doing his debut in the coming season of the Pro Kabaddi League as a raider for Patna Pirates. Expectations are high from this new young talent stay tuned to find out whether this young talent will turn out of any benefit for the Pirates or not.
- Mohammad Maghsoudlou:
The next in the list of raiders of Patna Pirates is Mohammad Maghsoudlou. This Iranian player was bought by Patna Pirates for an amount of 35 lakhs. Mohammad Maghsoudlou started off his career in VIVO PKL in 2016 with Pink Panthers. Apart from being a talented raider, Maghsoudlou is also an allrounder which will be a great benefit for the Patna Pirates.
- Surender Nada:
Surender Nada started off playing Pro Kabaddi League as a left corner defender for the U Mumba franchise and also represented Indian National Kabaddi Team in the Kabaddi World Cup. This left-corner specialist defender was bought by Patna Pirates for 77 lakhs in the season 7 player auction. His signature move is the ankle hold where he grabs on the raider’s ankle line when he is moving towards the mid-line to stop him from getting a point.
- Neeraj Kumar:
The Patna Pirates bagged Neeraj Kumar, the right corner defender, for 44.75 lakhs in the2019 player auction. Up till now, he has played 17 matches and has earned 13 points. In season 7 of PKL, he will be playing as a right corner defender for Patna Pirates like he did in his previous seasons for a different franchise.
- Jaideep Sharma:
When talking about the defenders, how can we miss on left corner defender Jaideep Sharma? Jaideep Sharma is one of the most prominent players of PKL and has been a part of Patna Pirates squad for season 5 & 6. So how can the management miss the opportunity of once again having him in their team? During the 2019 player auction, Jaideep Sharma was bought by Pirates for 35 lakhs as he is a solid defender.
- Jawahar Dagar:
Jawahar Dagar is an amazing defender and is also an Elite Retained Player of Patna Pirates. He did his debut in season 4 as a defender for Pink Panthers and has been a part of Patna Pirates for the last two seasons. In order to make him stay in the squad, the Patna management retained him at 13 lakhs for the seventh season.
- Ravinder Kumar:
Next in the line of defenders is Ravinder Kumar. He is a strong right corner defender and was bought by Patna Pirates for 10 lakhs, a cheap yet economical deal. Ravinder Kumar with Neeraj Kumar will make the Pirates defence front all the more strong.
- Ashish:
Along with the experienced and skilled players, a team also requires young enthusiastic players. To maintain a balance the management bought some young talented players in the team. This 19-year-old young enthusiastic lad was bought by the Patna management for 6 lakhs for the defender position.
- Hadi Oshtorak:
Hadi Oshtorak is an Iranian professional all-rounder kabaddi player who did his debut in PKL in season 2 with Telugu Titans. He has been a part of Patna Pirates in their title-winning season 3 and 4 and now once again he will be joining Pirates and was bought by the Pirates for 16 lakhs. His signature block move is what differentiates him from other players.
- Vikas Jaglan:
Ever since Vikas Jaglan did his debut in PKL, he has been with Patna Pirates. To treasure him for the seventh season of PKL, the management of Patna retained him for an amount of 8 lakhs. He is a strong raider as well as a defender and has played 27 matches till date and has a 46.26% raid strike rate.
- Mahendra Choudhary:
Mahendra Choudhary is a very dynamic player as apart from being an amazing right corner defender he is a raider too. The Patna Pirates grabbed this all-rounder at a very economical cost worth 6 lakhs and as it’s his first season the pirate’s management expects his to perform well with all dedication.
